Sessions
Whether you are a person who has counselling regularly or if this is your first time, it is normal to feel daunted or nervous at the thought of speaking to a stranger. I try my best to create a space in which you feel comfortable and safe.
What to expect in a session
Before your first session I offer a free 15 minute phone call or face to face meeting which is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and for you to ask any questions you might have about counselling. I will tell you about me and how I work as a counsellor and you could also share what has brought you to counselling now.
If you feel that I am not the counsellor for you then please just let me know. Counselling is personal to you and it is essential that you feel comfortable. Equally, if I feel like I am not the counsellor for you, I will let you know as I want to ensure you are able to access the right support from the right person.
After our initial conversation, if we both feel we can work together then we will book a session - face to face, online or by phone, whatever suits you. You might feel nervous and unsure before this first session but please don’t worry, this is completely normal.
At the start of the session we will go through practicalities, paperwork and policies on confidentiality. From there we will go at your pace to explore what has brought you to counselling and if there is anything specific you are hoping to achieve from your sessions.
I work openly and aim to have a transparent relationship. We will have informal check-ins, where we can talk openly and safely about how things are going. A lot of the power in therapy comes with being able to have honest conversations in a safe space.
“I have never participated in therapy before and I can see now how incredibly useful it is for dealing with acute, urgent issues as well as daily stresses and challenges.
When I look at the goals I set for therapy, I feel so proud and confident about how I have made these changes in my life. ”
Session options:
Face to Face - I currently work from central Glossop. It is close to the station so easily accessible from across the High Peak - Hadfield, New Mills, Broadbottom, Stockport and Manchester.
Online - I conduct online sessions from a private space where we can’t be disturbed using Zoom. If other platforms work better for you, we can discuss options. All you need is a private space with internet access where you won’t be disturbed.
Phone - If online sessions don’t suit you or are not practical, we can also have sessions over the phone. I will call you from a private space and you will need a private space where you feel comfortable to talk.
If you think I'm the right counsellor for you then get in touch to ask about my availability.
